A Presentation and Conversation on Reparations

It's been well over a year since many white Americans vowed to do better in the wake of the countless murders of Black people, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. Many of us have participated in lengthy conversations about racial equity, defunding the police, and providing reparations. We have attended rallies, written postcards, and advocated for criminal justice reform. When it comes to reparations though, what have we accomplished?  We’ve heard the subject is too complex, that we don’t know if our ancestors enslaved people, that it’s up to the government and non-profits to do the work. The reality is that only 1% of foundation funding specifically goes to Black communities, and the government has contributed .00 $$ toward reparations for Black people.

Multiple organizations including Vashon-Maury SURJ, Backbone CampaignIndivisible Vashon’s Immigrant/Refugee Rights Group, the Vashon-Maury Island Land TrustIndivisible Vashon and the Washington Indivisible Network (WIN) Race Equity and Inclusion team have joined together to invite you and your network of friends, colleagues, and collaborators to join The Civil Reparations Project for a presentation and discussion about making good on our promises and taking reparative action now.

There is no cost for this event.  Register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZErf-Ggrz0jHdzwe-X6cT1xJGAMWNJAnq8J
